In my cartoon I depicted a family who was traveling to Ellis Island to start a new life in the United States. Just like real immigrants they had to leave there extended family who whould most likely never see them again. On the boat ride the mother was sick and someone had died like many immigrants had because they were crammed into a small area with no fresh air. When they finally got to the immigration station the mother got turned away for being sick. When people arrived to Ellis island they would have a full physical and there records were searched to make sure they would make good citizens. If someone was sick or had a bad track record they could not become citizens of America and usually went back home without the rest of their family.
